My name is Lorraine Gaudet. I am originally from Quebec City and moved to Halifax Nova Scotia in 1985 to become a French immersion teacher.

I have retired from teaching four years ago and have fortunately discovered two wonderful new passions since then: drawing and painting.

All these years, I never knew I possessed this artistic side in me until one night, in July 2014, I doodled something on a piece of paper and to my astonishment, was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. I then started drawing with pastel for a few months to eventually start painting with acrylic in June 2015.

I am a self-taught artist. However, I did take a graduate art course while working on a masters degree in education back in 2011.

I have sold my paintings from mouth to mouth, displays, art shows, and online.

I was a member at the Peggy's Cove area festival of the arts and also at the Lunenberg gallery; and a few of my paintings were displayed at The Hidden Gallery two years ago for a period of six months.

I am hungry and passionate about the work I create from within. Art consumes most of my time and I absolutely love it.

Here are a few quotes that somewhat illustrates how I feel as a new artist.

Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures. ~Henry Ward Beecher

Painting is silent poetry. ~Plutarch, Moralia: How to Study Poetryl as a new artist.

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep. ~Scott Adams
